A car LPG system is a system installed into a vehicle so that it can be powered with autogas. It is more economical to drive a vehicle with autogas than to drive it with petrol or diesel because the cost of buying autogas in most European countries is almost half the cost of buying petrol or diesel.
However, if your car does not come with factory fitted LPG system and you want to add it to your car, there are a number of things that you should consider before converting your car to LPG.

Because you will need to leave the car for the conversion usually between one and four days, it is convenient if you don’t have to drive half way through the country to give and get the car.
Just like you have to service your car, you need to service your LPG system also. It is advisable to check and service the system every 20.000 kilometers traveled and/or once a year (depends on the system).
As a rule of the thumb, the more a warranty last for a certain system, the better the system. Usually it is between 3 and 5 years for a good system.
It is also advisable to ask the installer if the warranty for the engine stays or is it breached. Professional installers have agreements with car brands that the warranty for all current parts of the car stays even after installing their LPG system.
I will write more about lubrication in another article, but for now let’s say that some engines have exhaust valves that need extra care if you don’t want the hot gas to burn them and/or damage the engine. So you have to buy a lubricator that will take care of those valves. You will need about one liter of lubricant for 10.000 kilometers.
Each LPG system installer has their own database with data whether a certain car brand and engine type needs additional lubrication with their system or not. These databases are unfortunately confidential, but they will gladly help you found out if you ask them for your car and engine.

If you don’t own an exotic car the chances that you are the first one who wants to install a LPG system to a particular car are rather slim. So do your homework and find out which LPG systems were already installed in a car like yours (take caution: it is not only the model that is important, but also the engine!). Another important factor that you should consider is the location of the LPG filling stations within your vicinity or usual route. It can be time consuming to drive farther away from your daily commute only to fill your tank.
